Manchester United Scout Report: Trevoh Chalobah
Reports from numerous news agencies have indicated that Manchester United are keen on signing Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea. Here is my opinion on the news.
Manchester United hopes to add an up-and-coming defender from a rival team London side. The club’s new owners INEOS intend to buy the Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. Chalobah could be deemed surplus to requirements because of his absence during preseason. The Blues value him at around £25 million, which is in the ballpark United are willing to pay. He plays a variety of roles such as centre-back and central-defensive midfielder.
Why is United interested in potentially signing him?
Despite winning the FA Cup against their bitter rivals Manchester City (2-1) United had a poor season finishing in eighth position. United’s backline was thin due to injuries to key players such as Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Erik ten Hag had to rely on Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf and numerous other players to help him win games; causing more issues than answers.
United this season have prioritised this as a main issue for the team. The club’s new owners INEOS want to buy young defensive talent; buying 18-year-old Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille; beating the Spanish footballing powerhouse Real Madrid CF for his signature.
United needs more depth in its backline. I’m slightly worried Martinez may get injured during next season. Martinez plays an important role for the squad; allowing the team to push forward and playing through balls to create attacks. His experience and athletic ability are important for United.

Yoro is still a young player who needs time to develop. He doesn’t have the experience compared to Martinez. His injury during United’s 2-1 loss against Arsenal in a pre-season friendly is also concerning. United’s depth at the centre-back position is bad. Numerous reports have suggested that Maguire or Lindelöf will leave the club during this transfer window. This means that United still needs to find a replacement.
Chalobah's Potential Role:
Signing Chalobah would be a good option for United. He has had experience playing for a top-10 side in England and can play numerous roles; such as a centre-back and defensive midfielder. He is main foot is his right and would be a perfect rotational player for Yoro.

Chalobah presses effectively with aggression before slowing down as he approaches his opponent and regularly succeeds in preventing opponents from turning when they receive the ball – even if they are physically imposing.1 His style of play is similar to what Ten Hag demands of his centre-backs. His centre-backs play from out the back and press high. All positive signs when considering him as a new backup centre-back.
Conclusion
He’s affordable, reliable and a good potential buy for United. I think he would be a great addition to the squad. All together I think he would be a good buy. If United are still stuck trying to negotiate Matthijs de Ligt I could see him as a viable option.

Hello Mr. Ridley!
I've read your story, and I want to say that I know zero, zilch, nada about soccer.
However... this story has me interested in who Trevoh Chalobah is; it makes me curious as to whether he's touted as one of the top prospects in his age category, what his style of play is, and if there are any notable career achievements.
That's something I really like from the story! It made me interested in a sport I've not had the opportunity to follow along with. There were a few minor parts where the punctuation threw off my reading pattern, however this was a very solid piece, and I wanted to say that I wish you the best in your future writing endeavors!
