Erik ten Hag signs a contract extension with Manchester United
Here is my opinion on the news of Erik ten Hag's contract extension.
Manchester United has announced that Erik ten Hag will continue as United’s manager for next season. Despite weeks of speculation if he would remain in the job, Ten Hag has signed a contract extension with the club to 2026.
The United manager explained many areas at the club needed improvement such as winning the Premier League and Champions League.
“We have found complete unity in our vision for reaching those goals, and we are all strongly committed to making that journey together," Ten Hag said.
United also announced the club has agreed with Newcastle United for Dan Ashworth to become the Red Devil’s new sporting director. Reports suggest the agreement was worth around £10 million.
United’s new sporting director said the club’s end-of-season review showed many areas where Ten Hag needed to improve, however, it concluded he was the right man for the job.
“With two trophies in the past two seasons, Erik has reinforced his record as one of the most consistently successful coaches in European football,” Ashworth said.
"With our strengthened football leadership team now in place, we look forward to working hand-in-hand with Erik to achieve our shared ambitions for this football club."
What’s my opinion on the news?
The news has created numerous emotions within the fanbase, with some happy with the news Ten Hag and Ashworth will be at the club; and others disappointed Ten Hag has stayed at United.
For me, the decision is a good one. The club needs stability now and Ten Hag can help with this aim. Having a world-class team behind him gives me even more hope he will achieve more at United. INEOS are now covering the cracks of the Glazer’s mismanagement of the club. United has never given its managers a support system in the past decade. INEOS’ new appointment is something the Glazer family would have struggled to do in the past decade.
Hiring Ashworth shows there is a change happening with the new ownership at the helm. United have missed numerous great potential deals over the past decade which could have been important for the club.

According to Fabrizio Romano over the past decade, United backed away from a $2 million deal for Moisés Caicedo, signing a 17-year-old Pedro Neto, and passing on a 15-year-old Jamal Musiala. What a mountain of cockups!
All these players have been important for the current teams they play for. While the players United have purchased over the past decade have performed poorly. Well, apart from David de Gea and Bruno Fernandes.
The days of paying over market evaluation for players such as Paul Pogba have gone. The club have now collectively decided to target young players such as Joshua Zirkzee. Also negotiating multiple deals at once rather than one at a time.
I am excited for the new season to happen and for United to get into the Champions League and try to challenge the top three clubs in England. Furthermore the continuation of young prospective youth into the first team.
