Why Marcus Rashford Deserves the Spotlight: A Conversation We Must Have
Marcus Rashford and Manchester United need to talk about his future.
A discussion is required by Manchester United and Marcus Rashford about his future.
Rashford posted online celebrating his team’s winning performance against Manchester City. However, we will surely see the team move from him as Amad Diallo has surely cemented his first team spot.
Rashford’s Current Situation
Rashford was dropped by United manager Ruben Amorim for the City match because of unprofessional behaviour - an issue for which he has been criticised before by other former United managers, such as José Mourinho. He needs to ask himself whether he wants to stay in Manchester. United are currently showing promise under Amorim and I’m confident he doesn’t want to miss out. But the online hate, calling him a flop, won’t help his confidence. It’s going to take time for his performance to improve.
United’s Perspective
This assumes a buyer can be found for Rashford but United will want a significant fee for an English international whose contract doesn't run out until 2028. Anyway, who will be willing to pay £300,000 a week? Rashford, psychologically, is the sort of player who needs a manager to put an arm around him. Amorim’s tactical acumen will understand that Rashford needs to play higher up the pitch. He and Alejandro Garnacho have similar issues of holding the ball up for too long. An issue former United manager Erik ten Hag couldn’t fix.
Future Scenarios
Amorim’s man-management skills are acclaimed but it’s whether he wants to accept the challenge of getting Rashford back on track. Maybe he can’t see a way back for the English international. However, it’s Rashford’s career, his responsibility, and his legacy is in his hands.
I believe it’s time for him to leave the club. It’s a divorce which should have happened a long time ago. If I was the president of Paris Saint-Germain or Barcelona I’d buy him. He would be able to at least score 20 goals a season if he moved to the French or Spanish league. Furthermore, he is a brand that easily drives revenue into your club.
Whether Rashford stays or goes, his career depends on his ability to adapt and find the right environment to thrive. Fans and the club must ask: how can both parties benefit moving forward?

I think PSG and Barca are good options for him. Especially Barca cause of Hansi Flick’s ability to harness talent.
