Shaky Transfer Window for Manchester United
My thoughts on United's transfers.
Manchester United’s transfer window for the 2025-2026 season has been shambolic.
United fans believe the team needs another striker.
Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Diego León of Cerro Porteño are the club’s only signings.
Cunha is Ruben Amorim’s second signing and will replace Alejandro Garnacho at Old Trafford, who looks set to depart the club.
What’s my opinion on the signings?
While León remains untested in the Premier League, he offers potential. The real statement signing is Cunha.
Cunha is strong, looks to make the pass, and has amazing finishing abilities. He has scored more goals than United forward Rasmus Højlund last season (15 vs 4).
But signing the Brazilian is not enough to make a challenge for a top-five position in the Premier League.
United still desperately need reinforcements up front and on the right wing.
Losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur has created a cash flow problem for the club.
Winning the trophy allowed United to qualify for the Champions League and get about €100 million.
United’s lack of income has caused headaches for United Executive Officer Omar Berrada and Director of Football Jason Wilcox.
The players targeted by both men are simply out of United’s price range.
Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres looks likely to make a move to Arsenal Football Club.
Arsenal can afford more than €60 million for Gyökeres, and the Swedish international is eager to play in the Champions League.
While United’s negotiations with Brentford Football Club for Bryan Mbeumo have halted because of a £60 million fee dependent on the sale of Jadon Sancho to Juventus.
How will United go next season?
Winning the Premier League with a squad heavily reliant on youth is highly improbable.
Kobbie Mainoo and Toby Collyer need mentorship from senior players.
Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount have all struggled with form and fitness, which has limited their influence throughout the season.
Marcus Rashford, Sancho and Garnacho have lost the faith of the fans and manager because of their off-field antics.
Unless the club finds a way to bring in experienced reinforcements, United risk not just missing Europe, but falling into mid-table obscurity
