Manchester United's nightmare continues
Manchester United has lost 2-0 to Newcastle. I talk about United's issues at the moment and what needs to be done to deal with the team's underperformance.
Set Piece Nightmare
Manchester United have been horrible this season when dealing with set pieces.
United, which recently lost to Newcastle United (2-0), has let in numerous chances from set pieces this season. Because of this issue, they have lost games against teams such as Arsenal and Bournemouth.
The Newcastle game is United's third loss in a row. It’s the first time since 1997 that United has lost three consecutive matches. All three losses have come down to the team's inability to deal with crosses. It’s been difficult to watch.
André Onana is physically weak in the box and struggles to deal with strong target forwards, similar to David de Gea. Furthermore, United’s zonal-marking system isn’t working and needs to be adapted for the squad’s game against Liverpool and Arsenal.
Transfer Market
United must get busy during the January transfer window. Media reports suggest Ineos won’t buy new players during the upcoming window.
If so, it’s an absolute joke! United, currently 14th in the Premier League, is desperate. The squad needs a left-wing back, a central defensive midfielder, and a new central-attacking midfield player. The squad is a ship with too many leaking holes.
It’s rumoured the club needs to sell players before they can purchase. Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, and Christian Eriksen must be sold. Continued underperformance for the past two years and high wages are two reasons why they should go.
Garncho’s Possible Departure
The January transfer market is looking horrible for United, with a high-profile winger rumoured to leave the club.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported the club is potentially interested in selling Alejandro Garnacho. A frosty tension between Garnacho and Ruben Amorim has caught the eye of many clubs around Europe who are interested in the young winger.
Reports suggest Amorim has an issue with Garnacho’s professionalism, however, this is an issue that has happened before at the club with Jadon Sancho. I believe it’s a horrible deal. Garnacho is only 19 years old and has a lot of potential. Despite the inability to hold up the ball, I think he could adapt and learn how to play the central forward role in Amorim’s system.
Anyway, that’s my rant done.
