Liverpool Football Club destroys Manchester United (3-0)
Manchester United has been thumped by Liverpool 3-0. Here are my thoughts on the match.
Manchester United has been embarrassed at home by a cross-town rival.
United lost 3-0 to Liverpool in the third game of the Premier League season.
Luiz Diaz scored during the 35th and 42nd minutes of the match, while Mo Salah managed to continue United’s humiliation by scoring in the 56th minute.
There were numerous glaring issues for United which Liverpool took advantage of such as an ageing Casemiro and Marcus Rashford’s lack of discipline.
The Brazilian midfielder couldn’t deal with Liverpool’s press during the match. He made numerous stupid passes during the game and was easily beaten off the ball.
Erik ten Hag desperately needed Manuel Ugarte during the match. Ugarte was unavailable to play due to registration issues before the transfer window, forcing Ten Hag to rely on 20-year-old Toby Collyer.
The second issue for United was Rashford not tracking back during the match to deal with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The English full-back nearly scored during the first 10 minutes of the match, however, the goal was ruled off-side because Salah had touched the ball in an off-side position.
It was also obvious Rashford had lost a yard of pace because Liverpool’s defenders were easily catching up to him when over-the-top balls were given to him.
Conclusion
United must play Ugarte in the midfield more often during the season, Casemiro can’t play at the highest levels anymore because of his lack of physical ability.
Amad Diallo must also replace Rashford. Diallo, who was awarded Player of the Month, was dropped during the match against Liverpool.
It makes no sense why he didn’t start in that game against Liverpool. He has all the qualities which Rashford doesn’t have at the moment. He has strong finishing abilities and has the pace to beat defences in the Premier League.
Despite losing two games in a row, it’s still too early to say if I think Ten Hag should get sacked. United in previous years has lost multiple games in the early part of the season and still made the top four. This should be the goal for this season. I can only hope we manage to beat Southampton otherwise it’s going to be another long season.
